Hospitality is in the backbone of tourism: Sectur

The Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Torruco Marques, said that the hotel industry will continue as the backbone of the national tourism activity, due to the infrastructure it deploys, the investment it requires, the benefit it produces to the local population and the number of jobs that generate'. When participating in Guadalajara, Jalisco, in the 77th Ordinary General Assembly of the Mexican Association of Hotels and Motels (AMHM), the head of the Sectur stressed that tourism increasingly plays a more important role in the growth and economic development of many Nations 'Only in 2017, a thousand 326 million people moved around the world, which represented an annual growth of 6.9 percent, with a spill in 1 trillion 340 billion dollars.' In the case of Mexico, tourism activity grew 3.5 percent, while the economy in general increased 2.2 percent. In the past year, 39 million 291 thousand international tourists arrived in the country and there was a spill of 21,336 million dollars. In 2018, according to the trend from January to September, the expectation in arrival of international tourists is 42 million 423 thousand people and in total spending of these visitors is 22 thousand 307 million dollars, 4.6 percent more than the year last, said Torruco Marques. He said that in 2019 it is expected to reach a volume of 44 million 884 thousand international tourists, 5.8 percent more than in 2018, which will represent an economic income of 23 thousand 263 million dollars, equivalent to 4.3 percent more than in 2018. At the end of 2017 the national hotel infrastructure was 21 thousand 967 establishments with 794 thousand 581 rooms. By 2018, it is estimated to have 23 thousand 167 hotels with 833 thousand 854 rooms, with increases of 5.5 percent in establishments and 4.9 percent in rooms. The federal official aboun that in 2019, the expectation is that the number of hotels will increase by 5.8 percent and rooms by 5.4 percent, which will give a total of 24 thousand 515 hotels with 878 thousand 507 hotel rooms. In the Assembly of the AMHM, Juan José Fernández Carrillo assumed the presidency.
